Here Are All the Places That Have Gone and Will Go Under Lockdown

In addition to the Centre-advised 81 districts, many states on Monday announced lockdowns. Below is the statewise breakdown.

Maharashtra: 

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced the imposition of curfew in entire state due to coronavirus.

Rajasthan: 

Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma on Monday said the government has imposed prohibitory orders restricting assembly of five or more people to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He said that people can be booked under Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience of order) if they are found violating the order.

The Centre had initially advised lockdown in:

Bilwara,
Jhunjhunu,
Sikar, and
Jaipur

Tamil Nadu:

Tamil Nadu will be under a lockdown till March 31 from 6 pm on Tuesday to prevent the spread of coronavirus and CrPC section 144 will be invoked for its implementation, Chief minister K. Palaniswami announced.

The Centre-advised districts on lockdown are:

Chennai,
Erode, and
Kanchipuram

Telangana: 

The Telangana government on Monday asserted the total lockdown announced by it to check the spread of coronavirus would be implemented strictly and advised people against moving from 7 pm to 6 am on the roads.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, state Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said nobody would be allowed outside from 7 pm to 6 am daily as part of the lockdown.

The Centre has asked for lockdown in the following districts in Telangana:

Bhadrari,
Kotha Gudam,
Hyderabad,
Medchai,
Ranga Reddy, and
Sanga Reddy

Odisha:

The Odisha government intensified its drive against the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic on Monday as it put around 3 crore of the state’s 4.5-crore population under a lockdown by extending the restrictions from five to 14 districts.

The state government had on Sunday put under lockdown the five most-populated districts, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kendrapara and Angul.

Now, it has also imposed restrictions in the districts of Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda. Areas under the Rourkela Municipal Corporation, including the steel township, are also under lockdown.

Uttar Pradesh:

In the first phase, the lockdown will be in force in the districts:

Ghaziabad,
Varanasi,
Allahabad,
Kanpur,
Aligarh,
Moradabad,
Lakhimpur Kheri,
Bareilly,
Azamgarh,
Meerut,
Gorakhpur,
Saharanpur, and
Pilibhit.

Andhra Pradesh:

Prakasam
Vijaywada
Vizag

Andhra Pradesh government announced closure of its inter-state borders for public transport with chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy saying the state was moving towards a lockdown till March 31.

Uttarakhand: 

Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Monday asked officials to strictly enforce the statewide lockdown.

Heavy barricading was done on the streets at a number of points in the city, besides deployment of police personnel to implement the lockdown, which came into force at 9.00 pm on Sunday.

West Bengal: 

The lockdown will apply to areas under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, all municipal towns in North 24 Parganas district besides Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, West Burdwan, North Dinajpur and Howrah districts.

Siliguri, Darjeeling and Kurseong towns will also be put under the lockdown, according to the notification.

Haryana:

A day after putting seven districts of the state under lockdown, the Haryana government on Monday decided to extend the anti-coronavirus preventive measure to the remaining 15 districts of the state also.

The lockdown for the new districts would be effective from March 24 midnight i.e. night intervening Monday and Tuesday.

The Khattar government had on Sunday announced lockdown for the state’s seven districts, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Panchkula.

Punjab:

The Punjab government on Monday clamped a curfew to fight coronavirus, making it the first state to take the drastic measure after finding that many people were ignoring the state-wide lockdown ordered by it.

Karnataka:

The districts under lockdown are Bengaluru city, Bengaluru Rural, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Kodagu and Belagavi, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Kerala: 

The state government clarified on Sunday that it would not impose total shutdown in the seven districts where infections have surfaced in the state as ordered by Union government. In a statement, the chief minister’s office stated that the government had stringently regulated public life only in Kasargode for now.

Manipur: 

Manipur was placed under a lockdown with immediate effect till March 31 in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, state minister Thongam Biswajit Singh announced on Monday.

Essential services, however, have been exempted from the purview of the lockdown. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet, the industries minister said.

Nagaland: 

With the Nagaland government announcing a lockdown in the state as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, people resorted to panic-buying of essential items on Monday.

Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy had assured on Sunday that there would be no shortage of essential commodities in the state, despite the lockdown order.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has been placed under lockdown indefinitely to check the spread of coronavirus, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Monday.

The chief minister made the announcement before the state assembly was adjourned sine die.

Assam:

Assam will be under lockdown from 6 pm on Tuesday till March 31 in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Sarma said essential services like pharmacies, medical, water supply, banking, and petrol pumps would be exempted from the purview of the lockdown.

The state border will be sealed and no vehicles, barring those on essential duties, will be allowed, the minister added.

Goa: 

Goa on Sunday evening extended Janta curfew till midnight of March 25, and has sealed state borders.

Bihar: 

The Bihar government had on Sunday enforced a lockdown in all district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters, block headquarters and urban local bodies of the state with immediate effect till March 31.

Jharkhand: 

The Jharkhand government on Sunday announced a lockdown in the state with immediate effect till March 31 to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, an official notification said.

Barring emergency services, all government departments, offices, factories, godowns, weekly markets, shops and business establishments will remain closed during the period, the notification issued after a high-level meeting chaired by chief minister Hemant Soren stated.

Chhattisgarh: 

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday evening announced a lockdown in urban areas in 28 districts till March 31, during which only those sectors dealing with essential services will be allowed to remain open.

Meghalaya:

The Meghalaya government has restricted entry of people from other states in view of the coronavirus threat.

There are no restrictions on the movement of people within the state at present, an official said.

Arunachal Pradesh: 

The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a lockdown in the state from Monday evening till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak, officials said.

All essential services will continue during the period, according to a notification issued by Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on Sunday night.

The government will enforce “complete safety restrictions” from 5 pm on Monday till March 31, he said, adding that the step has been taken as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
