New Delhi: India reported a record 4,187 fatalities due to COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the country’s death toll to 2,38,270. The country also reported 4,01,078 new infections in the past 24 hours, pushing the tally to 2,18,92,676 according to the Union health ministry.
The country has reported more than 4 lakh cases for the third consecutive day.
There are now 37,23,446 active cases in the country, comprising 17.01% of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 81.90%.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,79,30, 960, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.09%, the data stated.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore on May 4.
The Centre said that 24 states have reported a COVID-19 test positivity rate of more than 15% over the past week. In addition, at least 30 districts have shown “a steep upward trend” in cases over the past fortnight, which is a “matter of great concern”, the health ministry said.
